The EJA was launched formally on 22 nd May 2010 with nine (9) Jazz Clubs affiliating on the day. The launch was supported and endorsed by the Ekurhuleni Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts, Culture and Heritage. To date the EJA membership has grown to eleven (11) Jazz Clubs with a complement membership of two hundred (200). Member Clubs host listening sessions every weekend and each Club session attracts between 100 and 150 “Jazophiles” or guests.

Our objectives are clearly detailed in our
Constitution.Primarily, the EJA is in the business of growing Jazz appreciation in Ekurhuleni and beyond. The EJA has been instrumental in the establishment of the Gauteng Jazz Appreciators Foundation (GJAF) – a Gauteng Provincial organization in which all 5 (five) Regions are affiliated. More importantly, the EJA, as an affiliate of the GJAF, participated in the national Task Team that looked into the feasibility of establishing a national organization for Jazz Appreciators. The efforts of the national Task Team culminated in the official launch on 10 th August 2013 of South African Jazz Appreciators Association in Ohlange Institute, Inanda, KwaZulu-Natal.

Jazz is a growing art form in South Africa. We intend to provide a platform for this growth not only for Jazz appreciators but also for Jazz artists and other related art forms.
